Beyond the terrace, the view opens on the park, on the countryside and the Garonne river. Of course, it is because of this splendid, very colourful and quiet view that the castle was built there. The park of 25 ha / 60 acres includes different tree species and some are more than two hundred years old.
This park is a unique example of an 18C garden.
The box tree garden is the largest in Europe with 4 hectares and 6 km of alleys.
It was designed as a walking garden by the marquis in the 18C.
Inside this garden, a ball room and a maze.
Before leaving the park and the castle, don’t miss the 18C cold room.
Inside, there is a sort of large tank where the ice was stored in winter to keep the food.
The ice came from the Pyrenees carried by mules.
